Willie Robert Christian, Sr.

A TIME TO BE BORN:  Elder Willie Robert Christian, Sr. was born on September 25, 1930 in Conyers, Georgia, Rockdale County to the late Bartow and Virgie Lee Christian.

A TIME TO PLANT: He received Christ at an early age and joined Whites Chapel United Methodist Church, Conyers, Georgia. He became an Elder at First Born Church of the Living God Morris Temple, Bainbridge, Georgia.

A TIME TO BE EDUCATED: He was educated in Conyers, Georgia, Rockdale County. He attended Seminary Training School in Waycross, Georgia.

A TIME TO PROVIDE: Willie worked at Miller Hydro/Lynch Machinery for 40 plus years and retired. He stayed actively working for Dr. Sidney Cochran and Robinson Motors and establishments until his recent illness.

A TIME TO BE UNITED: He was married to Betty Jean Shellmon on May 26, 1963. Loving and caring for each other for 57 years.

A TIME TO BE AT REST: Willie Robert Christian, Sr. departed this life on Wednesday, September 9, 2020. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Willie Robert Christian, Jr. and several beloved siblings.

A TIME TO MOURN: Willie Robert Christian, Sr. was affectionately called Shorty by his siblings and Rap by his loved ones and the community. He is survived by a loving and devoted wife, Betty Jean Christian. From that union there were seven children: Cherry Christian Crawford (William); James C. Christian, Sr.; Alvin Christian (Latoya); Jeffery B. Christian; Diane Christian Austin and Andrew Christian all of Bainbridge, Georgia; thirteen grandchildren: Alexis (DeVonne) (whom he raised like a daughter), Octavia (Kissie), James Jr., DeVonte’, Antwann, David Jr., Michael, Kendall, Kwamain, Zaydrine, Jaden, Trenton, Alvin Jr., and Dallas; eleven great-grandchildren; brothers: Eddie Christian (Katherine), Algie Christian (Virginia), Robert Johnson (Willie Bell), Dwight Christian (Naomi) and Victor Christian (Joyce); sisters: Mary Evelyn Gresham (John), Patricia Aiken (Reginald), Barbara Pruitt (Charlie), Nancy Sanders and Mary Kelley; brother-in-law: Nelson Shellmon (Aretha); sister-in-law: Emma Brown and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, special family and friends.
