Vonnell Meshell Smith, 39, of Bainbridge, Georgia, by way of Albany, Georgia, was born on December 3, 1986. She was called home on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida.
Vonnell accepted Christ at an early age. She attended Dougherty County Schools and was a graduate of Turner Job Corps in Albany, Georgia.
Affectionately known to family and friends as “Punkin,” Vonnell was a devoted mother and a deeply loving family member whose life was rooted in care for others. She loved her children and family fiercely and would give her last, even in the face of obstacles. Known for her caring spirit, Vonnell had a heart that extended beyond herself. She found peace at the beach, drawn to the sound of the waves, and she will be remembered for her distinct smile and infectious laugh that could light up any room.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her Children: Nevaeh Chance, Isaiah Smith, and Jerimiah Ross, all of Bainbridge, Georgia; Mother: Betty (Milton) Peterson of Bainbridge, Georgia; Father: Jessie (Jennifer) Smith, Jr. of Albany, Georgia; and Grandmother: Wilma Bradshaw of Albany, Georgia.
She is also survived by her Sisters: Mary Floyd of Tallahassee, Florida; Marquita Floyd of Atlanta, Georgia; Fatimah Powell, Jasiel Smith and Briona Smith, all of Albany, Georgia; and Stepsister: Zykiah Moore of Albany, Georgia.
She leaves behind her Nieces: Kierrah Richardson of Tampa, Florida; Marquisia Bradley of Huntsville, Alabama; Gyuanni Robinson, Janiyah Robinson, and Zion Robinson, all of Atlanta, Georgia; and her Nephews: Marqael Bradley of Auburn, Alabama; Marquez Bradley of Albany, Georgia; and Demari Kendrick of Tallahassee, Florida.
She is also survived by her Great-Nieces: Ma’Nylah Bradley of Auburn, Alabama, and Arielle Howard of Atlanta, Georgia; and her Great-Nephews: Andrew Glover IV and Romari Lewis, both of Tampa, Florida.
She leaves to cherish her memory her Godchild: affectionately known as “Deuce,” along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Vonnell was preceded in death by her Maternal Grandmother: Mary Donaldson; Maternal Grandfather: Andrew Donaldson, Sr.; Paternal Grandfather: Jessie Smith, Sr.; and Brother: Terrell Smith.
