Thomas Jefferson Obituary

Thomas “Peter/Grandda” Jefferson, Jr.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.  Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day – and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Thomas Jefferson, Jr, affectionately known as Peter, nicknamed by his grandmother Georgia Wright, was the third child of ninechildren, born to the late Thomas Jefferson Sr. and the late Annie Bea Jefferson on December 2, 1952, in Fowlstown, GA.

Peter accepted Christ at an early age and joined Emanual Missionary Baptist Church, where he served faithfully in various capacities including the Usher Board, Sunday School Secretary, Laymen President and as a chaperon for the male youth trips to state programs of the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia.  As a result of those trips, Peter was instrumental inimplementing the youth basketball project in the Laymen auxiliary of the church.

Peter received his primary education from Fowlstown Elementary School and graduated from Attapulgas Mt MorahHigh School.  During his teenage and young adult years, Peterwas an avid softball and basketball player.  The Jefferson family backyard was the community basketball meetup spot, where the Jefferson brothers hosted basketball games every Saturday and after church on Sundays.  The community teams even playedtournaments on their backyard court, where young men would come from miles around to play.

Peter was a humble, compassionate and gentle man of few words.  His presence was a testament of his inner wisdom and grace. Peter favorite roles were being a son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. On Monday morning March 18th, Peter’s mother’s birthday, and the day after his wife’s birthday, God called Peter from his earthly home to his Heavenly home.  His Lord said to him:

“Well done good and faithful servant.”

Peter will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. From his compassionate gentle loving spirit, giving heart, infectious smile and beautiful laugher to the nicknames he branded so many of us with, he leaves an everlasting imprint in our hearts.
