Raymond Johnson Obituary

Raymond Howard Johnson was born October 1, 1940 in Decatur County, Georgia to the late Annie and Melvin Johnson, Sr.  He accepted Christ as his Savior and joined Grant Chapel A.M.E. Church in his teens. As a young man he moved to Miami, Florida.  There he continued to grow in the knowledge of God through his church fellowship.  He was a faithful member of Bethel Apostolic Temple where he met and married Betty Jean Davis.  To that union, three children were born; Darryl, Michelle, and Eric. Ray was employed by Borden's Dairy as one of the first African American route salesmen.  During his tenure he had a very successful career with Borden. While living in Miami, he made many lifelong friends and acquaintances.  He had a heart for helping others. No task was too big for him to tackle if someone needed a helping hand.  He made himself available. In the early 1970s, Ray had a longing to return to his Decatur County roots.  He and his family relocated to Tallahassee, Florida where he would continue his career with Borden's Dairy and still be close to Decatur County because he had developed an interest in ranching and farming as a future career goal after retirement.  This he did and enjoyed greatly. Whatever he raised, he shared with family, friends, and neighbors. Always endeavoring to lend a hand and share. He also enjoyed gospel quartet singing and would travel miles to hear one of the groups perform. He even tried a little quartet singing himself and was good at it. Ray's oldest daughter, Beverly Denise Sadiku and his granddaughter Latisha Rachelle Johnson who affectionately called him, "Poppi" preceded him in death. Raymond is survived by his wife, Betty "Daye"; his daughter, Michelle; his sons, Darryl and Eric; his grandchildren, Lakesha, Loraine, Lennejah, Sarai, Braeden and Jeffery (Tonya); brothers, Clemmon (Grace), Phearis (Reather), Sammy (Mary) and Bobby; sisters, Helen (Rev. C. Sanders), Eloise (Alfred), Vern, Daisy, Betty, Ann (Oliver); and sister-in-laws, Nora and Ethel.  Six great grandchildren; Two great great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. His memory will forever be in our hearts.
