Leonard King, Sr. Obituary

Leonard Cula “Cool” aka “Cool Cat” King was the youngest of nine children born to the Late Mr. Samuel B. King Sr. and the Late Ms. Ellie Mae Greenlee King on September 3, 1956, at Griffin Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge, GA. He received his formal education in Decatur County, Georgia and Dade County, Florida. He received Christ at an early age and joined Pilgrim Rest Church in Decatur County, Georgia.

Leonard was a Master Brick Mason and sharpshooter.  He played piano by ear and was a very talented singer with a personality that left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He didn’t like to see people sad so he would do something to crack you up and make you laugh before you left his presence.  He liked fishing and did not seem to be afraid of anything.

Leonard spent time in Miami and Atlanta in his young adult life living life and enjoying new experiences before he met and married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Grimsley King, which preceded him in death. To this union three sons were born. One, Ramond Kawaiska King, preceded them both in death.

He was lovingly known as “Cool” to some and Leonard to others. No one that ever met him would ever forget him. The name “Cool” was given to him by his maternal grandfather because he enjoyed the feel of nature on his skin when he was sleeping and was a great dancer and cool with it. In later years his health began to change and limited the work he was able to do but until his passing he tried to do what he truly enjoyed doing that is creating artwork with bricks and other building materials.  On November 16, he faced another health battle that he did not win this time, at least not on this side. God saw his struggles and heard his plea for rest and granted his request.  His melodious voice, smile, wit, talent and compassion will be greatly missed by all.

Leonard leaves to carry on his memory and legacy his loving and devoted family. Beginning with his children, Sheila (Nickey) McPherson, Dothan, AL., Lenard Cula King, Jr. and Zachariah King, Colquitt, GA. Four grandchildren, Marshall Mack III, Dalin Mack, Jasmine King and Quinterius King; One great-grandson, Amari Mack; Two sisters, Lillian (Thomas) Barber, Whigham, GA., Brendia King, Colquitt, GA.; Three brothers, James Curtis King, Sr., Bainbridge, GA., Charles King, Sr. Atlanta, GA., Samuel (Hazel) King, Jr. Colquitt, GA.; One aunt, Wincey Brockington, Orlando, FL; Sisters-in-law, Sheryl Baldwin, Detroit, MI., Carolyn Wyatt King, Damascus, GA, Dorothy Grimsley and Sydell Grimsley, Colquitt, GA.; Brothers-in-law, Earnest (Veloria) Grimsley, Steve (Ronnie) Grimsley, Freddy (Cassandra) Grimsley, Harry Grimsley, Tommy Grimsley and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and coworkers.
