James Brown Obituary

    On Sunday, August 14, 2022, James Edward Brown passed away peacefully with his loving and
devoted sister Annette at his bedside. James was born on December 23, 1956 in Bainbridge,
Georgia to Daisy Brown (raised by Joseph Ross and Ilene Brown-Ross), who preceded him in
death. He preceded in death his grandmother Anna Brown-Johnson. He attended Bainbridge
High School and later received his high school diploma from American Preparatory Institute in
Killeen Texas, April 2016. James accepted Christ at an early age at the Greater Macedonia
Missionary Baptist church, where he was a junior usher and participated in the King Youth
Choir. James was married to Deborah Brown for 11 years who preceded him in death, 2016. He
was member of First African Missionary Baptist Church. Bainbridge, Georgia, Rev. Henry Flowers
III. where he served faithfully as an Usher and anything he was asked to do until he became ill.
James attended Emmaus Church Jacksonville, Florida until his health failed.
Military Career:

    James enlisted in the United States Army from 1976 to 1984, with an honorable discharge. He completed
the following training: US Army Quartermaster School, Stock Control and Accounting – 1976, US Army
Quarterman School, Fort Lee, Virginia, Material Supply, Administrative Specialist at Fort Benning,
Georgia in 1980, United States Army Oil Analysis Monitor, Fort Benning, Georgia, 1981. He received a
diploma for successfully completing the DAS-3/Phoenix Supply course in 1982. US Army USAREUR
Basketball Coaches and Officials Clinic, 1986. He received commendation for performance as Recreation
Assistant in Mannheim Youth Activities, Supply Procurement and administration Specialist, Mannheim,
Germany Europe. He coached tennis and golf in Mannheim Germany. He received numerous awards and
commendations in the United States Army. He had international tours of duty in Mannheim Germany and
South Korea (1979 Combat Support Company 1st Battalion 9th Infantry).

Education: He graduated from A.C.T. Travel School, 1988, worked in the Airline/Hotel industry, Associate of
Science in Medical Billing and Coding from Colorado Technical University, 2011, Certified medical
biller and coder. He utilized those skills at Dallas VA Medical Center, Dallas, Texas, Bachelor of Science
in Computer Science from Webster University in 2015.

Bainbridge State College (ABAC), Bainbridge, Georgia – 2011-2018 (until he became ill)

Sports Career:
Certified basketball official with the SOWEGA Chapter of the Georgia High School Association
(GHSA). He officiated games in Decatur and Miller counties,
Certified basketball official with the Texas High School Basketball Officials Association (THSBOA). He
officiated at public and private schools in Dallas, Texas.

Election Poll Worker, Dallas, Texas and Bainbridge, Georgia

James was an active member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People
(NAACP). He was an avid San Francisco 49ers football and LA Lakers basketball fan. He coached and
mentored young men in the sport of basketball, tennis, and golf. He coached tennis and golf in Mannheim
Germany. Everyone has a “James” story. His faith in God was consistent and active in his life and no matter what
the situation, he knew he was victorious in Jesus Christ. James was smart, funny, witty, and loved Jesus.

He was the jokester in the family and always had a smile on his face.
James is survived by his son Rafael James Alamo, Columbus, OH, loving and devoted sister, Annette
Brown, Jacksonville, FL, brother, Ricky Ross, Bainbridge, GA, Betty Jo Ross (loved as a sister), nieces:
Leah Brown (Bobby), Jacksonville, FL, Latrease Thomas, Bainbridge, GA, great nieces: Brianna Marie
Thomas, Bainbridge, GA, Alexis Marie Brown, Claudia Marie Brown, Daisy Marie Brown, Jacksonville,
FL, nephew, Joshua Thomas, Bainbridge, GA, 1 st cousins, Marion Brown, (Charles), Bainbridge, GA,
Gregory Brown, Antioch, CA, Jeanette Brown, Bainbridge, GA, best friend, Melvin Bowen, a host of
other relatives and friends.
