Gloria Ann Holmes, the daughter of Calvin Holmes Sr. and Nora Mae Collier Holmes
was born on April 23, 1944, in Colquitt, Georgia. Gloria Ann Holmes was raised in a
Christian home. Gloria resided in Newark, New Jersey in the late 70’s. She accepted Jesus
Christ, as her personal Lord and Savior at the early age of eleven. Her baptism took place at
Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church in Colquitt, Georgia.
Gloria Ann Holmes joined the family of God at a church known as, “Mount Calvary
Missionary Baptist Church” in Newark, New Jersey. For 13 years, Gloria was known for her
faithful service on the usher board at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. She later in
life returned back to Colquitt, Georgia in the year of 2014. While she was in Colquitt, Georgia
she united at “Bethel Missionary Baptist Church” receiving God’s words and understanding
from Pastor, Maurice McDaniel, until she was called home by her Lord and Savior.
Throughout her life, Gloria Ann Holmes obtained a high diploma at the historically black
high school, Bethel High School in Colquitt, Georgia. After graduation, she relocated to Ohio
to further her education at Ohio State School of Cosmetology.
She was a God-fearing Christian woman whose life reflected her deep love for the
Lord. Her faith was lived with humility, prayer, and trust in God through every season. Guided
by Scripture and grace, she served others selflessly and found peace in knowing her life
belonged to Christ. She was also a caring and devoted woman who loved her family and
friends wholeheartedly. Through kindness, encouragement, and unwavering support, she
made all who knew her feel deeply loved. Though she is greatly missed, her love, faith, and
cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
Gloria Ann Holmes was preceded in death by her loving parents, Nora Mae Collier
Holmes and Calvin Holmes, Sr.; her brothers, Robert Holmes and Calvin Holmes, Jr.; and her
sisters, Gwendolyn E. Holmes and Phyllis A. Sheffield. She leaves to cherish her precious
memories four sisters: Mildred Toliver, Alice Wolfe, and Gracie Hamilton, all of Colquitt,
Georgia, and Carolyn Rushin of Lithonia, Georgia; two brothers, Albert Holmes, Sr. of
Colquitt, Georgia, and Pastor Bunivesta Holmes of Bainbridge, Georgia; one sister-in-law,
Betty Holmes of Bainbridge, Georgia; and one brother-in-law, Isiah Hamilton of Colquitt,
Georgia. She is also lovingly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear
friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
