Drusilla Lee Obituary

Sister Drusilla Lee departed this life on August 28, 2020, at Bainbridge Memorial Hospital.  “Dru or Miss Dru”, as she was affectionately called by so many family and friends, was born to the late Willie C. Cooper and Pauline Butler Cooper, in Decatur County, Georgia.  Dru was the oldest of three children. At a young age, Dru confessed Christ and joined Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Cyrene, GA.  After living many years in Rochester, NY, Dru moved back home to Bainbridge and re-established her membership at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she helped re-start the youth choir called “The Youth Christian Fellowship Choir.”  She later moved her membership to Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor John Wooden, where she was a faithful member until God called her home. Dru was a member of the graduating class of 1968 from Hutto High School.  Her passion was fishing or cooking.  She will always be remembered as the “Cake Lady.”  If the sun was shining, then the fish had to be biting somewhere was her motto.  She loved going on the boat with her son Daniel.  You could tell when she got a bite because the boat would tilt from her lunging to get her fishing pole.  And you know how short her arms were. Dru will be sadly missed, but forever remembered by her family and friends.  She was not only a mother, grandmother and great grandmother, but a babysitter, counselor, doctor, tax preparer and great cook.  She also operated her own Thrift Store.  However, it was not uncommon for her to give the items away or for little to nothing.  Her house was the gathering place for all to have good food and lots of laughs.  Sundays and holiday gatherings will not be same. Dru was married into Two Unions.  In each Union, she had the opportunity to enjoy the Love of many step-children and in-laws it came with.  Even though the Unions changed, her Love remained the same for each.  She leaves to cherish in her memory four children, Daniel (Josette) Beard, Attapulgus, GA, Shmyracy ‘Deena’ (Walter) Hodge, Bainbridge, GA, Kelvin (Lolita) Beard, Columbus, OH, and Michael Lee, Bainbridge, GA, thirteen grandchildren and sixteengreat-grandchildren. She is survived by four siblings, David (Cherry) Cooper, Villa Rica, GA, Mary Helen Cooper, James (Brenda) Cooper, Bertha Jackson, Bainbridge, GA, Alvana Smith, Havana, FL.  A God daughter, Shalisa Lloyd and God son, Aikeem Perkins and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives and friends who will cherish her memory.  She was preceded in death by one child, Katherine Denise Beard, three sisters, Willie Mae Cooper, Corine Irving, and Sarah Gurley. She leaves dear friends, Lucille Baulkman, Mary Stroud and Katie B Corker.
