Betsy Ann was born March 8, 1950 to the late Willie Fulgeon, Sr. and Lula
McNair Fulgeon in Decatur County, Georgia. She was christened as an
infant and spent her childhood and early adult life as a member of St. Mary
A.M.E. Church of Climax, Georgia.
She attended Mt. Moriah Elementary School and graduated from Attapulgus
High School.
She was previously married to the late Joseph Johnson, Jr. and to this union
two children were born. She later met and married the love of her life,
Douglas Alday. “Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth”
(Matthew 5:5).
Betsy was called to a home not created by human hands in the early morning
hours of May 2, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two
children (Teresa Elaine Johnson and infant James Earl Johnson), and one
grandson (Timothy Lee Johnson)
She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving and devoted husband of 28
years, Douglas Alday; grandson and great-grandson Tony Maynor and
Andrew Maynor of Rochester, New York; stepson Joshua Alday of
Thomasville, Georgia; step-daughter Laurie Hartley (Michael) of Cairo,
Georgia; three sisters Patricia Henderson of Ft. Pierce, Florida; Gwendyl
Fulgeon of Albany, Georgia; Teresa Lavind (Judson) of Valdosta, Georgia;
one brother Willie Fulgeon, Jr. (Stephanie) of Chesapeake, Virginia; two
half sisters Betty Gurley (Charlie/Buddy) of Havana, Florida; and Betty
