Mr. Alfonso Smith was born on March 30, 1951, in Attapulgus, GA to the late Henery Sr. and Roberta Smith. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Bethel AME Church of Attapulgus, GA. Five brothers preceded him in death, Henery Smith Jr., Willliam Smith, Edward Smith Sr., Lawerence Smith Sr., and Gene Johnson.
He received his education in the public school system of Decatur County and graduated from Mount Moriah High School. He was a member of the graduating class of 1969 and a graduate of Savannah State College in 1973. He served in the United States Army from 1975 to 1981. While serving his country he received various accommodations and decorations. He was a member of OMEGA PSI PHI fraternity. He was employed as a longshoreman and became a member of International Longshoreman Association, Local 1233, where he was a hustler driver and crane operator for 30 years.
He leaves to celebrate his memories a loving, devoted wife of 20 year, Irene Woodard Smith; three sons, Al-Terrell (Whitney) Smith of Tallahassee, Fl., Darren (Dale) Washington of Ellenwood, GA., and Cedric Manior of Rincon, Ga. two daughters, Latita Warr of Deaborn MI., and Kimberly (Leonard) Anderson of Columbia, SC.; one sister Earlene Bouie of Attapulgus, GA.; two sisters-in-law, Doris Smith of Newark, NJ and Lillie Wooden of Bainbridge, GA;17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
