Alberta Sharpton Obituary

Ms. Alberta Elizabeth Breedlove Sharpton was born on August 29, 1937 to the late Amos Breedlove Sr. and Terries Harris.  On Monday, October 14, 2019, Alberta made her transition to her heavenly home. Alberta spent her childhood in Bainbridge Georgia, where she attended Hutto High School.  Upon graduation she moved to Newark, New Jersey in 1959.  She continued her Education by attending Wilfred Beauty Academy, Essex County College (AA), Jersey City State College (BA) and Seton Hall University (MS). Alberta worked for the Essex County Welfare Board as a Social Worker. She was a Union Member of CWA Local 1081.  She proudly retired after many years of helping individuals, families and other groups of people to better their lives and experiences. After being diagnosed with breast cancer, Alberta didn’t let the disease define her. She was a breast cancer survivor for over ten years. To God Be the Glory! Alberta’s life was centered around love and kindness.  She was an Eastern Star, back home chapter #7.  Her Entrepreneurial spirit lead her to become the owner of BERT’S LIVING ROOM.  From 1986 until 2010, it was one of Newark, NJ’s top bars for Night Life Entertainment.  The Patrons of this establishment loved “Momma Bert” and she loved them right back.  Many to this day still reminisce about the good times, great fun, and good food they enjoyed in this “Living Room” where they were given love and encouraged to live their best lives by “Momma Bert”. Once “Momma Bert got to know you, you were no longer a patron, you were her family. Alberta was predeceased by two children, Carlton Sharpton and Ethel Renee Carter. Left to cherish loving memories are four children; Carlyene Roberts, Marsha Sharpton, Bruce Williams and Cloritta Greggs, thirteen grandchildren; Kevin Roberts, Kenya Roberts, Chantel Nichol, Clarissa Roberts, Amir Sharpton, Kasim Roberts, Ronald Love, Ashley Nichol, Keyson Roberts, Nydreyah Love, Al-Quan Williams, Dymir Williams and Jahsir Williams, four great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
